Chalabi Down

He must have fallen far from grace. Remember, Chalabi's group is who spoon-fed the "flowers and dancing" welcome we were to get from the Iraqis, as well as all the (now proven faulty) intelligence regarding Sadaam's WMD programs. He's been the administration's darling, but this morning CNN is reporting different:

U.S. military personnel and Iraqi police have raided the compound of the Iraqi National Congress and the nearby home of Iraqi Governing Council member Ahmed Chalabi.

Chalabi's nephew, Salim Chalabi, said the forces entered his uncle's home, put a gun to Chalabi's head and threatened him.

There is, too, always the possibility that this is a bit of theater, for the Iraqi's benefit if not our own, to create the illusion of a breakdown between the US and Chalabi and his people. He is, after all, a very, very, unpopular man in Iraq.
