Swapped out the old template for the extreme simplicity of Blogger's Minima theme, with some enhancement/customization thanks to BloggerHacks for better commenting (highly recommend the Metempsychosis Comments hack -- huge improvement over the stock Blogger comments), and BloggerTemplates for some other help.
What do y'all think?

Thanks Rick. I'm still tweaking and playing with different bits of layout and functionality, with the plan to bring the blog fully back online.
